MicroData outreach workshop

On August 2nd, 2013, the National Institute of Statistics in Rwanda (NISR) in collaboration with the Accelerated Data Program (ADP) organized a workshop on how to access data sets from NISR surveys using the Rwanda National Data Archive (NADA) platform.
NADA is an online cataloguing and dissemination system for surveys and census metadata and microdata collected by the NISR and it allows data users to browse, search, access, and download NISR survey and census data and allows data producers to disseminate survey metadata and microdata in a secured environment, in compliance with their policies and regulations.
According to NISR, they thought it important to reach out to researchers and other specialized users with advanced qualitative skills to support their needs for data by providing them with anonymised microdata files to be used strictly for research and education purposes.
Participants were drawn from NURSPH faculty staff, research assistants, PhD, MPhil and Master’s students. In the workshop the attendees had the opportunity to browse the NISR NADA platforms and practice in groups as well as receive one on one assistance from the training team. Trainers included the Director General of NISR, Mr. Dominique HABIMANA and Ruben MUHAYITETO also from NISR. Ms. Shuang CHEN represented ADP.
ADP a program implemented by the International Household Survey Network (IHSN), which is supported by among others, the DFID, World Bank, ILO and WHO.
