1st Rwanda Field Epidemiology Conference “Building Public Health Capacity and Leadership through the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program ”

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National University of Rwanda/School of Public Health (SPH), established the Rwanda Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program a 2 years in –service training program in applied epidemiology and public health laboratory practice. It is aimed to build public health capacity in disease surveillance, outbreak response and program evaluation.

Since May 2010, one cohort of 15 residents finalized the 2 year and a new cohort of 15 residents was enrolled in May 2012. Fellows in this program are of different backgrounds ; medical doctors, veterinarians and public health specialists. After completion, they are skilled to provide epidemiologic and laboratory services to national and sub national level in public health services, animal health surveillance programs, wildlife programs, etc.

In order to disseminate results of epidemiologic investigations and public health research and promote networking and collaboration among public health practitioners and researchers, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with SPH organized a one day meeting that will be held at
LEMIGO HOTEL, KIGALI, on 26th March 2013.
